First Stop: Four Peaks Wilderness (The Last of Arizona Part 2)
Three weeks. Two cameras. One man desperately speedrunning all his favorite photography spots.
24mm, 30s for 194 shots at f/8 and ISO 3200. Stacked using a free software called StarStaX.
Nearly all of my photo trips are done alone, and this was no exception.
But no matter how many times I go out by myself, nothing can shake the uneasy feeling that settles in my stomach.
My car rattles and shakes over the rough dirt road, every rock that pings against it a reminder that it really wasn’t built for what I’m putting it through. But Alister prevails, and soon I’m face to face with Four Peaks.
As I cut the engine and set up my camera, the air is so still and quiet that it feels almost absent. Even my footsteps, light and quiet, sound like an avalanche under the night sky’s stillness.
The stars twinkle at me through the darkness like old friends, and for the first time I wonder if moving is really the right decision. The desert is an unlivable hellscape for sure, but the night skies like these almost make it worth it.
I’m definitely going to miss them.
